Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs recommends heating pads instead of heat emitters because heating pads act as a more consistent heat source, and allow hedgies to regulate their own body temperature by choosing to lay on or off the heating pad. Heat emitters, on the other hand, force heat into an area, and we've seen plastic cage accessories and exercise wheels melt due to the use of heat emitters.
As a backup heat source, however, ceramic heat emitters may be used if there are concerns about ambient air temperature being too cool. Be sure to choose both a ceramic heat emitter and a clamp lamp to hold the emitter.
